Excitement requires an emotional engagement, hence the importance of the relationship between teacher and student and the importance of the connection between the student and the subject. I fear that too often both of those can be undermined by a purely academic approach to the subject in question. Thank you Graham for stirring our minds and hearts by your excellent musings on various dimensions of the theological training spectrum, surely the most engaging of subjects dealing as it does with ministering people and the Living God.

Dear sir, I agree; theology without passion is just as good as teaching phylosophy - it leads to a bigger head and a smaller heart. When we've lost the enthusiasm powered by the Holy Spirit, we need to find our first love for Jesus once again. And with a burning love for Him, our information is contagious.

WOW!! Graham, you're so profound. I love this post. You are talking about true discipleship taking place at a Bible College as a lecturer transfers his love for God and the Bible to the students while transmiting information, and it makes sense. This is one of those moments I can say, "yes, but..." a majority of Bible colleges are more preocupied to transfer information. so sad... I'm so glad God has placed a man with your heart and vision in such places of influence!

Graham Cheesman has been such a blessing at Belfast Bible College!! From his wise insight, Graham teaches us once again about the simple, yet profound, things in life, such as laughter. Jesus used simple, real things like this as well to illustrate the serious, lifechanging truths of the Gospel.
Any wise theological educator will get even wiser if they listen to Graham's advice and learn from his wide experience.

This article has been very helpful for me. I have been working with in-service training for about 10 years in Portugal and have struggled to explain the difference in the models. This article will help greatly in this area. Thanks
